The Los Angeles Angels' 2026 MLB season ended before it really began, as this team was clearly not going to be good enough to make a run to the postseason.

But that didn't mean players and coaches couldn't prove themselves as core members of this franchise going forward. While some players made strong cases, what about their manager, Kurt Suzuki? The former Angels player got a chance as their manager in 2026.

But, in an unsurprising announcement from the Angels, they have decided to not accept the club option on Suzuki's manager contract, meaning he's no longer the manager of the Angels. This was always the most likely outcome for Suzuki after he signed on last Fall.

Angels announce unsurprising Kurt Suzuki manager news

"OFFICIAL: The Angels announced that the Club has declined the option in Kurt Suzuki's contract and, in coordination with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, will search for a new manager and coaching staff for the 2027 season," the Angels announced.

This is not a surprise for the Angels, as Suzuki was likely only slotted to be the team's manager for one year.

Considering the Angels had another poor year, losing 100 games while winning just 62, seeing Suzuki not have his contract re-upped is hardly a surprise.

While it's been a rough go of things these last three years for the Angels, pretty much ever since Shohei Ohtani left, the Angels do have some hope going forward.

John Mozeliak actually sold some assets at the MLB trade deadline, and Stan Kroenke is taking over as the owner of the Angels.

There's finally reason to be optimistic, and that could begin with the team's search for a new manager this offseason.

Maybe they bring in Albert Pujols, as he's been linked to manager jobs in recent years. Maybe it's Yadier Molina, another former big leaguer who has a connection to Mozeliak, and would be an interesting hire for the team's manager spot.

But regardless of who the new manager is, the main piece of news lately is that the Angels have officially made the decision not to bring Suzuki back as the team's manager.
