They might have needed overtime, but the Kansas City Chiefs have kept their playoff hopes alive with a tough 23-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts at Arrowhead Stadium.
Now 6-5, the Chiefs, led by a monster 30 carries and over 100 yards from Kareem Hunt, over 350 passing yards from Patrick Mahomes, and a 141-yard game from Rashee Rice, move onto Thanksgiving against the Dallas Cowboys in a good mood.
Things didn't go smoothly for Kansas City in a game that had so much on the line, but for head coach Andy Reid, the team's ability to fight back to eventually win pleases him most.
“That’s the part I appreciate as a coach the most, the attitude,” Reid said. “It’s a compliment to the players, coaches, the support from our building, no one has been hanging their head going oh no, that’s not been the mentality within our building, that’s everybody.”
Chiefs still in AFC playoff picture
The general consensus is that the AFC West is out of reach, leaving a playoff spot as a wild card the only way the Chiefs can punch their ticket to the playoffs, and with the win over the Colts, Kansas City is back in the thick of the conversation.
Of course, the Chiefs still aren't out of the woods yet, with the Houston Texans, Denver Broncos, and Los Angeles Chargers on the schedule, but by winning against the Colts, Reid's team has kept their season alive.
It wasn't pretty, but Kansas City did what it had to do with its mentality proving decisive as the defending AFC champs got themselves off the mat, and are ready to continue the fight.
