This season, the Boston Red Sox have relied on the depth on their bench and at AAA for their success this season.
The prime example of this is their middle infield, which was hit with the brunt of the injury bug early in the year. The Red Sox lost Trevor Story and Isiah Kiner-Falefa to the 60-day IL back in late May/early June, and they traded away their young star in Marcelo Mayer at the trade deadline.
Because of that, their depth took their spots and never looked back. Some of their best players include Andruw Monasterio and Nick Sogard, who have become borderline indispensable to the Red Sox.
Monasterio is a underrated slugger for Boston

Like most of the other Red Sox players, Monasterio had a slow start for Boston. He was at the back of the bench, and only saw limited play. However, when the injuries happened, Monasterio stepped to the plate, and started hitting.
He’s been a slugger for a while now, and Boston thinks he’s pretty needed, even with their original starters returning. According to interim manager Chad Tracy, Monasterio will be in the lineup more often than not in some shape or form.
“He’ll still play… It’s hard to deny. He’ll play second. You saw the early part of the season where Mona was playing third, second and a little bit of short if he needed to. The way he’s swung the bat against both left and right, you can’t deny that or ignore it. You have to keep that involved,” Tracy stated.
Sogard is proving his worth as well

Boston got Curtis Mead as an answer to their middle infield injuries, and to bring some needed slugging power to the lineup. It hurt quite a bit that in his second AB he broke his wrist getting hit by a wild pitch.
With the loss of Mead, Sogard stepped up in his place, as Anthony Seigler has definitely cooled down in the past month. While he lacks the power of Mead, Sogard gets on base, and manufactures runs. Those are the two things Boston desperately needs, and if he can do it, they want him.
Thanks to Monasterio and Sogard, Boston has been able to turn around their season, and stay afloat amid injury bugs. Hopefully, these two continue to help, and get Boston to the promised land.
