The Las Vegas Raiders' quarterback position, for most, is set in stone, as the franchise is set to draft Fernando Mendoza with the first overall pick.
We know that rookie quarterbacks coming into a poor team often struggle in Year 1, and despite the handful of quality signings and weapons already on the roster, it likely won't be smooth sailing for Mendoza.
So, having a quality, veteran backup to help teach Mendoza is a viable option, but the list of those who can actually help him is limited.
But NFL.com's Nick Shook thinks one quarterback would be great in Las Vegas -- Kirk Cousins.
“Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza is expected to head to Las Vegas with the No. 1 overall pick in April," Shook wrote. "In 2025, Cousins proved he can handle the veteran backup role and perform well.
“He'd supply Mendoza with a wise teammate and proper mentor who can help him navigate the rigors of the NFL, and if Mendoza isn't ready to start right away, Cousins can fill that job for the time being, too. It makes too much sense to not happen.”

Kirk Cousins ideal backup QB?
You could make that case, yes.
Having had ample experience starting in the league, there isn't anything Kirk hasn't seen across his journey, and what he could do from a teaching standpoint for Mendoza would be invaluable.
Of course, this move only works if Kirk is content with being a backup. He might think he still has enough in the tank to be a starter in the league.
But if the Raiders sign Kirk to back up Mendoza and be a teacher, then the Las Vegas rookie will be in a good spot as he learns from one of the better veterans in football.
