Analyst predicts Phillies trade struggling veteran outfielder

The Philadelphia Phillies have one of the best records in Major League Baseball at 45-30, but still have some room to improve their roster.

The Phillies' offense ranks fourth overall in batting average and is in the top ten in runs scored this season, yet they have not been getting much production out of their outfielders, aside from Nick Castellanos.

Veteran left fielder Max Kepler has been struggling this season for the Phillies, and ClutchPoints' Garrett Kerman believes the team may try to move on from the 32-year-old before the trade deadline.

"The Phillies brought in Max Kepler during the offseason to add left-handed power and outfield stability," Kerman wrote. "Instead, Kepler has been one of the team’s most disappointing regulars. His production has cratered, with a batting average and power numbers well below expectations. Kepler’s inability to get on base or deliver in key situations has made him a black hole in the lineup, and his defensive metrics have also regressed."

"Kepler’s struggles are particularly glaring given the Phillies’ need for consistent outfield production. Instead, he’s become a liability, and his presence in the everyday lineup is holding the team back from maximizing its offensive potential."

After spending nearly ten years with the Minnesota Twins, Kepler signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Phillies, but is only slashing .220/.314/.717 with nine home runs and 26 RBIs. Trading away Kepler and getting a new outfielder could be a great move for Philadelphia as the team pushes for the division lead.
