During Monday's game between the Detroit Lions and the Washington Commanders, Amon-Ra St. Brown was directly involved in a controversial altercation. Mid-game, St. Brown approached the Commanders’ defensive tackle Daron Payne after a Detroit touchdown and said something to him.
Shortly afterwards, Payne delivered a punch to St. Brown’s head/neck area and was ejected and later suspended one game by the NFL. Video evidence later surfaced showing St. Brown appearing to land a punch on Payne’s helmet several plays earlier, though no flag was thrown for that initial act.
Amon-Ra St. Brown discussed the incident during Wednesday's episode of the "St. Brown" podcast.

"So I hit him, and then he starts talking sh*t, and then I hit him again. And I accidentally hit him. I didn't mean to jab him in the face. I just mean to, like, push him off. And I so happen to hit him in the face. And at that point I was like, damn."St. Brown also reflected on his behaviour.
"Like, I shouldn't have done that... I don't remember what I said," he said. "It was in the moment. And then he didn't say anything. He just winged back and punched me. I was like, honestly, I didn't even expect it, like it happened so fast. "I did not expect the 300 pound dude was about to slap the sh*t out of me. I'm like, What the f*ck that has never happened to me in my life."NFL Veteran criticizes Amon-Ra St. Brown for Trump dance celebration
Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jourdan Lewis criticized Amon-Ra St. Brown for mimicking Donald Trump’s dance during a touchdown celebration against the Washington Commanders.
Lewis, a Detroit native, questioned on X before deleting the post.
“You do that in one of the blackest cities in America?” he wrote.St. Brown explained he did the dance after hearing Trump would attend the game, saying he wanted to “have some fun.” The Lions won 44-22 in Landover, Maryland, where Trump appeared for the NFL’s “Salute to Service” event, marking a rare presidential visit to a regular-season game.
