Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown said his viral touchdown celebration against the Washington Commanders wasn’t meant to make a statement.

He found the end zone on a 9-yard catch in the first quarter of Detroit’s 44-22 win on Sunday. St. Brown turned toward U.S. President Donald Trump’s suite at Northwest Stadium and broke into his version of the "Trump dance."

He clarified on Wednesday that the celebration was spontaneous.

"First of all, if I offended anyone, I do apologize. I did not mean to offend anyone, it was all fun," St. Brown said, via "The St. Brown Podcast." "If any president was at that game, if they had a dance, I would have done it. It was nothing with who the president was."

Trump’s attendance was historic as no sitting president has attended an NFL regular-season game since Jimmy Carter in 1978. He took part in the annual “Salute to Service” event, reading the names of newly enlisted members of the U.S. military during the second quarter.

Amon-Ra St. Brown admitted that he knew U.S. President Donald Trump would be at Northwest Stadium. However, the Lions wide receiver made it clear that his celebration was meant as a lighthearted nod to the occasion.

"Even after the game I found out, that was the first game that a president has been to in 40 years, which is fun, St. Brown said on Wednesday, via "The St. Brown Podcast." "It was fun, doing the dance, nothing more, nothing less, just quick shimmy."

The matchup turned physical in the second quarter when Washington's Daron Payne struck St. Brown in the helmet. The defensive tackle was ejected and received a one-game suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct. Payne’s appeal was denied on Monday.

A video that circulated on social media showed St. Brown swinging first. Commanders lineman Javon Kinlaw told reporters that officials missed the initial punch.

St. Brown was not disciplined by the league. He finished the game with five receptions for 58 yards and his eighth touchdown of the season.
