The Detroit Lions picked up a blowout victory over the Chicago Bears in Week 16, as Dan Campbell's squad is now 13-2 and is one of the premier teams in the NFL. The Lions will travel to Levi's Stadium to square off against the San Francisco 49ers in a rematch of last year's NFC Championship Game in Week 17.

As usual, the Lions offense had a productive day on Sunday, as the unit posted 34 points and 475 total yards versus Chicago. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson continues to establish himself as one of the strongest head coaching candidates in the 2025 cycle, as Johnson's offense leads the league in points per game (32.9) through 16 weeks and is also second in yards per game behind the Baltimore Ravens (408.6).

Johnson will have a highly competitive head coaching market this offseason, but the 38-year-old has had a long journey in coaching before receiving the opportunity to coach in high-level positions. Johnson began his coaching career in 2009 as a graduate assistant at Boston College before becoming the team's tight end coach.

The South Carolina native would eventually land his first NFL job with the Miami Dolphins, serving as an assistant coach with Miami from 2012-2018 before landing a job with the Lions in 2019 as the offensive quality control coach, eventually working his way up from tight ends coach to offensive coordinator in 2022.

Johnson has held a plethora of jobs with multiple different teams in his coaching career, and Lions superstar wide receiver Amon-Ra St.Brown decided to make a picture of a young Ben Johnson go viral during his time with the Dolphins.

St.Brown posted a picture of Johnson during his stint with Miami to Instagram on Monday, and the photo shows just how far Detroit's offensive coordinator has come.

The Lions' offense has flourished since Johnson took over as offensive coordinator a few years ago, and it's clear that the players love him as well. If the North Carolina graduate lands a head coaching job this offseason, it will be difficult to replace the bright offensive mind.
