Amanda Seyfried is facing backlash for being critical of Charlie Kirk following his shocking murder.
The actress, 39, called him “hateful” in response to an Instagram post Sunday.
The post highlighted controversial statements Kirk made about abortion, immigration, Black people and more alongside the caption, “‘Ask yourself, why is exposing the flaws of MLK’s life and character — something he said we should judge others by — so controversial?’ – Charlie Kirk, January 2024.”
A comment from Seyfried’s verified Instagram account reads, “He was hateful.”
The “Mean Girls” star also reshared a text post on her Instagram Stories Monday, seemingly insinuating that Kirk incited his own death.
“You can’t invite violence to the dinner table and be shocked when it starts eating,” the post reads.
Seyfried has been getting slammed for her pointed social media activity.
One X user posted, “Amanda seyfried believes Charlie Kirk assassination was justified. Make sure to never see another one of her movies.”
Another X user wrote, “I am not watching any More Movies with Amanda Seyfried SHE IS SPREADING THE LIE THAT CHARLIE Kirk was Hateful She should lose her Job. HAS SHE ACTUALLY WATCHED ANY OF CHARLIE KIRK VIDEOS.”
More critics accused her of being hypocritical.
“According to Amanda Seyfried Kirk deserved to be assassinated because he encouraged violence. Ok so according to her logic people who were violent during the George Floyd protests deserved to be shot by police. They ‘invited violence to the table’ according to Seyfried,” one X user wrote.
Seyfried has also received a barrage of negative comments on her pinned Instagram post of her and her cat Bert from August 2023.
“Horrible character you’ve shown. Be a better person,” one comment reads.
Another comment reads, “I will never watch anything with you in it. You need to research Charlie and know he never hated anyone or anything. Maybe you need to Look inside your cold heart.”
One commenter noted they used to be a fan of the “Mamma Mia” actress, but weren’t anymore.
“Wow this is so sad. You were one of my faves. Why are you legitimizing political assassination against someone who never said anything violent in his life? RIP Charlie,” the comment reads.
Kirk died on Sept. 10 after he was shot while on stage at Utah Valley University during a stop on his American Comeback Tour. He was 31.
He and his wife, Erika Kirk, shared two children — a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son.
