While the Boston Celtics are top suitors for Giannis Antetokounmpo, there’s a chance that they don’t land the two-time MVP. If that’s the case, they need to think about other ways to improve their team.
A big man upgrade would be the perfect thing to pursue, as that’s what they’d basically be doing if they got Antetokounmpo. An inside presence that can truly create a completed version of Mazzulla Ball.
Domantas Sabonis is a prime example, but another one is Alperen Sengun, who NBA analyst Bill Simmons thinks is the best asset a team can get right now.

Sengun just had his best season overall with the Houston Rockets, and made his second All-Star appearance in a row. He finished the season averaging 20.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks in 33.3 minutes per game.
He’d be amazing in pick and rolls, as his great playmaking would allow him to kick out to open shooters when he drives in if defender’s collapse. He’s a great rebounder as well, allowing for easy second chances, either by putbacks or once again kicking out for another play or shot.
On top of all that, he’s only 23 years old. He’s just starting to enter his prime, and is only going up from here for the next decade.
Celtics have multiple avenues to get him

Boston has a few ways to acquire him as well. One way would be to trade Jaylen Brown, and that would be the only thing they give up. Sengun’s contract is much smaller than Brown’s though, so Houston would have to give up another player or two to match.
Another way would be trading Derrick White and some role players, such as Jordan Walsh and/or Sam Hauser. This would give Houston more depth, and the depth all have championship experience.
Finally, the Celtics could somehow work a three-team trade as well. This option is the most creative one, as they can address some other teams needs, who can address Houston’s, who could address Boston’s.
The possibilities are endless, but the fact remains: If Boston doesn’t land Giannis, a guy like Sengun is someone they need to consider.
