The Boston Red Sox signed Alex Bregman in the offseason. The move ended up being the first domino in a chain that led to Rafael Devers being traded to the San Francisco Giants.
The Red Sox signed Bregman to a three-year, $120 million deal in the offseason. However, his new deal includes an opt-out after this year. After a scorching start to the season, Bregman would be wise to try and find a lucrative deal on the open market. Bregman's agent, Scott Boras, revealed recently that Bregman is open to an extension. Bregman spoke on a potential extension and how the Red Sox figure into his plans.
Bregman noted that signing a deal that allows him to finish his career is a "very high priority," according to MassLive's Chris Cotillo. He also noted that he has loved playing in Boston.
"I expected to love playing here and I have definitely loved playing here," Bregman said. "It’s a great place to play baseball. Being able to play for this organization is awesome."
Bregman was hitting .299 with 11 home runs before his injury. He was playing like an All-Star again, and his adjustments at the plate were clearly paying off. There were serious questions as to whether the Red Sox could afford Bregman after what could have been a career year. However, with Devers now in San Francisco, the Red Sox have saved upwards of $250 million.

Bregman still needs to make his return from his quad injury, and his focus is on that and helping the Red Sox make the postseason. Cotillo noted that it is unclear whether the Red Sox have approached him with an extension, but that does not seem to concern Bregman anyway.
"Honestly, I’m focused on getting back on the field and helping this team win baseball games," Bregman said, per Cotillo. "Getting back as soon as possible, as healthy as possible and making a push to get into this race and get into the postseason.
"When I signed here, the first thing I said was that I believed this was a team that could play playoff baseball. I still believe that. I’m focused on getting back, contributing and helping this team do that."
