Alabama honors Nick Saban during halftime

Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban, who led the Crimson Tide to six national championships and became one of college football’s most decorated coaches, has been elected to the National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame. 

Alabama Football announced on social media Saturday that Nick Saban has been honored as “an icon, a leader, and a legend.” The 72-year-old coach retired after the 2023 season, concluding his career with a remarkable record of 292 wins, 71 losses, and 1 tie over 28 years at Toledo, Michigan State, LSU, and Alabama. After retiring, Saban took on an unofficial role as head coach emeritus at Alabama and joined the ESPN College GameDay desk as a weekly contributor.

“Nick Saban set the modern standard for coaching excellence, building dynasties defined by discipline, preparation, and unmatched success while earning his place as one of the greatest coaches in the history of the game,” said Steve Hatchell, President and CEO, National Football Foundation & College Football Hall of Fame, Inc. “His induction solidifies the model of leadership and sustained greatness in college football.”

During Saban's tenure at Alabama, the Crimson Tide rose to an SEC dynasty, producing eleven SEC titles and numerous All-Americans and six national championships. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for December in Las Vegas. Saban will join a class of former players and coaches recognized for their lasting impact on college football.
