AJ Dybantsa continues to sit atop most 2026 NBA mock drafts, and it is easy to understand why NBA evaluators remain fascinated by his upside. Even though executives around the league believe the race for the No. 1 overall pick is still fluid, Dybantsa’s blend of size, athleticism and offensive versatility keeps separating him from the rest of the field.
In most latest draft rankings, Dybantsa moved into the No. 1 spot after a dominant finish to his freshman season at BYU. He led Division I basketball in scoring with 25.5 points per game while also averaging 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists, showcasing the type of all-around production NBA teams covet in a franchise cornerstone.
What makes Dybantsa especially appealing is his prototype NBA frame. At the draft combine, he measured 6-foot-8½ barefoot with a plus-4 wingspan and posted a 42-inch max vertical leap. Those measurements reinforced what scouts already believed — that he possesses elite physical tools capable of translating immediately to the professional level.
Projected No. 1 Pick remains competitive
Teams across the league are constantly searching for dynamic two-way wings, and Dybantsa fits that mold perfectly. Evaluators believe his floor is already extremely high as a potential 20-point-per-game scorer with three-level shot creation. His ceiling, however, may be even more enticing. Some scouts believe he can eventually develop into a 30-point scorer who also contributes as a secondary playmaker and disruptive defender.
The Washington Wizards, who own the No. 1 pick, are widely viewed as the favorites to draft him. Adding Dybantsa to Washington’s rebuilding core could dramatically accelerate the franchise’s timeline in the Eastern Conference.
Still, rival executives do not consider Dybantsa a unanimous lock at No. 1. Prospects such as Darryn Peterson, Cam Boozer and Caleb Wilson remain firmly in the conversation.
For now, though, Dybantsa remains the prospect most mock drafts continue circling at the very top.
