With the 2026 NBA Draft less than a week away, the conversation about the first overall pick has been raging on. The two primary candidates are BYU's AJ Dybantsa and Kansas University's Darryn Peterson.
The Washington Wizards hold the first overall pick with a chance of changing their franchise for the foreseeable future. However, it seems Dybantsa is confident he will be selected after not even working out with the Wizards.
AJ Dybantsa did not work out with any team ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft
Despite showing interest in the Utah Jazz, it seems Dybantsa is now dead set on joining up with the Wizards. As one of the top two prospects, he knows he will either go to Washington or Utah, so it seems he did not need to have a workout with either team.
While he would welcome staying in Utah, it seems Dybansta is quite confident where he would end up. He has been quite vocal in the NBA Draft process, and it looks like it has been worth it because he will be a top pick.

It is common practice for most top prospects not to work out if they know they are one of the biggest picks. Players like Victor Wembanyama were clear-cut picks, so he did not work out with the San Antonio Spurs. It seems Dybansta has experienced the same thing as the Spurs' giant.
"I didn’t work out for anyone; I just visited the cities. Take me to the facility, take me to dinner, talk. I don’t gotta work out. They know what I can do," Dybantsa said on Baseline Banter about the draft process.
The Wizards are not the only team he has met, but it seems he is expecting them to pick him first overall. It would be a surprise if Peterson becomes the first overall pick after this, but he is also deserving of the top spot if it does happen.
