Hi everyone, We've had our little tortoiseshell girl for just over a month, and I'm already completely smitten. I lost my dog last year, and I think that's made me extra anxious about getting everything right with her.

  • 02

She's around 15-17 weeks old and weighs 2.1 kg (4.6 lbs). Our vet says she's doing great and is a perfect size. She's recently had a growth spurt, including gaining 300g in one week. Her appetite, poos and wees all seem normal.

    That's not me

She has IAMS Advanced Nutrition dry food available to graze on, plus four Whiskas wet pouches spread throughout the day. She's also due to be spayed and microchipped in the next few weeks.

lots of slow blinks, nose bumps, licking my hands and sleeping flat on her back beside me or on my gaming chair. Her

favourite activities currently include 4am zoomies, walking across our faces to sniff us and trying to lick my PS5 controller buttons

Does her size and general appearance look about right for her age in these photos? I'd also really appreciate any first-kitten

tips, especially what helped you learn what's normal and feel more confident as an owner. I just want to give her the best life I can. Thanks!

Glittering-Low4418 Mine put on weight her second year, she's all fat and happy. Yours look perfect to me, and tortitude is no joke but they're usually a one person cat.

Current Meat_9148 Love and pet and feed and know that kitten is now the ruler of your world❤

  • 13

Oloideain She looks healthy. Our tortie is 4 and only 7.5lbs, so I wouldn't worry. Expect a growth spurt from 5 months to 6 months.

dividezero Keep seeing your vet for annual checkup and shots. She'll tell you if it's ever a problem. Eventually you might have to regulate her portions and maybe change her food for a different nutritional blend but again, the vet will keep you informed at the annual on when and if to do anything different.

My philosophy is that if the vet and the animal are both happy, then so am i and everyone else can eat rocks

  • If your vet says your kitten is healthy and your little tortie seems happy, that's what really matters! It's easy to worry about every little thing when you're a first-time cat pawrent, especially when you just want the best for your furry baby. But it sounds like she's eating well, getting plenty of love, and enjoying her kitten adventures. Keep asking questions when you need to, but don't forget to enjoy all those adorable moments!

FandomOfOne That looks and sounds like one happy, healthy girl. I love her orange chin beard

SquirrelBowl She's purrfect! Watch out for tortitude- it's real

  • Get ready for a whole lot of tortitude! Tortoiseshell cats have quite the reputation for being sassy little characters, and it sounds like this kitty is already showing off her personality. Between the 4 a.m. zoomies, demanding attention on her own terms, and taking over the gaming chair, she's clearly got some strong opinions! Life with a tortie is never boring, so prepare for plenty of mischief, cuddles, and cattitude!

she's a tortie so she knows she's always right; you're always wrong. That's it really. Please give your lil bean extra hugs and kisses.

SlimPetite Shes cute as a button and looks perfect my little pipsqueak turned into a fat girl pretty quickly, it sounds like shes doing fine! In terms of whats normal, you will get to know her quirks soon enough. Enjoy the kitten stage, i miss when mine used to fight her reflection

Mudlark-000 Cat looks great. Be ready for big paws and "chunkiness" before growth spurts, but final weight is hard to guess. The zoomies and "kitten- like" behavior tend to drop off at around two years.

  • 21

Elda_LandOfCreation She looks happy & healthy! I recommend another kitten. Kittens need other kittens for socialization & play. Then you get 2 floofs to love and cuddle.

  • Have you considered getting your little tortie a feline friend? Two cats can mean twice the cuddles, twice the mischief, and twice the adorable moments! Kittens have so much energy, and having a playmate can give them someone to chase, wrestle, and nap with. Of course, introductions take patience, and every cat is different, but if you've got the space and resources, the more the merrier!

jeremy_wills What a cutie I think she's already living her best life thanks to you guys B

emmybeatrice I have a tortie that literally looked like a kitten or very young cat for about five years! She now gets a bit bulkier throughout periods of the year but she is a very tiny cat in general! The vets have never once been concerned about her petite size. I wouldn't worry unless a professional does!

mortyella My tortie grandkitten is still a tiny girl at 14. She's big in attitude though! Enjoy your new kitty and try not to worry too much.
