Afroman went viral Friday for the “f—king golden” full testimony he gave against cops during his bizarre Ohio defamation trial — with the internet calling him a hilarious “American hero.”
The 51-year-old “Because I Got High” rapper was asked on the stand Tuesday why he felt entitled to post videos mocking officers who fruitlessly raided his home for drugs in 2022.
Afroman testified Tuesday against seven cops who sued him for defamation in rural Ohio. APSporting an American flag suit and sunglasses, the hip hop star fired back with a defiant rebuke of the cops who sued him in the civil case.
“Under the circumstance that I got freedom of speech after they run around my house with guns and kick down my door … I got the right to kick a can in my backyard, use my freedom of speech, turn my bad times into a good time,” he said.
“Yes, I do, and I think I’m a sport for doing so, because I don’t go to their house, kick down their doors, flip them off on their surveillance cameras, then try to play the victim and sue them.”
A lawyer for seven Adams County Deputy Sheriff police officers — who in March 2023 sued the rapper over a satirical music video titled “Lemon Pound Cake” — then asked Afroman about “upsetting” Deputy Sheriff Lisa Phillips, who was seen crying during the trial.
“Just like I was upset when she was standing in front of my kids with an AR-15 in her hand around the trigger,” he shot back.
Afroman was found not liable in the civil case AP“But I’m not a person, she is. So, I’m sorry for being a victim, let’s talk about the predators,” he replied with sarcasm.
Afroman, whose real name is Joseph Foreman, was ultimately found not liable in the case Wednesday — and social media lit up with praise for his testimony.
“This man is an American hero and we should cherish him as such,” one observer wrote on a Reddit thread centered on his testimony.
“Him, John Denver, and Frank Zappa [are] Legends,” another wrote.
“heck yeah…expose them for who they are,” another said, of the cops.
Others gushed that his testimony was “well-versed” “golden” and “absolutely f-cking hilarious.”
