AFC West standings: What Broncos' win over Raiders means for Chiefs in division race

2 hours ago 1

Could 2025 finally be the year a team dethrones the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West?

As the NFL continues with Week 10 of its season, the possibility of the defending AFC champs being a non-first place squad for the first time since 2015 is, at the very least, growing. The Denver Broncos took down the Las Vegas Raiders 10-7 on "Thursday Night Football" to remain among the AFC's best squads, while the Los Angeles Chargers are in the mix as well.

The AFC West is set to be a three-team race in 2025. How do the division standings look after Denver's win over Las Vegas?

Here's a breakdown of the current AFC West standings.

Raiders2-7

The Broncos came into Week 10 with the division lead, and they won't be losing that grip quite yet. With their low-scoring victory over the Raiders, Sean Payton's squad didn't just build more of an advantage in the AFC West — the Broncos also remain in the early mix for the No. 1 seed in the conference.

Defense and clutch fourth quarters have mostly been the story for Denver, which has now won seven-straight games. Six of the team's eight wins have come within one score, including a thrilling comeback victory over the New York Giants in Week 7. While the Broncos' offense hasn't been 100 percent convincing as a Super Bowl threat, wins are wins, and Denver may just have its best shot at an AFC West title since 2015.

The Chargers and Chiefs are not too far behind, though. Los Angeles is holding onto second place in the division heading into a "Sunday Night Football" meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers, riding a two-game win streak after a 1-3 stretch. Injuries have been an issue for the Chargers, but with Justin Herbert still throwing the ball well, L.A. also will have a shot at its first division title since 2009.

Then, of course, there's Kansas City, which has a bye in Week 10. The general expectation remains that the Chiefs will find their way into the playoffs, where they've been in each of the last 10 seasons. Still, a 5-4 record will need improved upon if the Chiefs are going to make a run for another division crown. Kansas City's remaining meetings with the Broncos (two) and Chargers (one) will play a massive role in the division race.

At 2-7, the Raiders are heading toward another season with a high draft pick despite some higher expectations with Pete Carroll on the headset.
