Adam Schefter reveals lingering issue that dropped Will Johnson out of first round

There are already countless headlines emerging from the first night of the NFL Draft. Some question the Falcons for trading up to select James Pearce, sacrificing significant draft capital in the process. Others focus on the surprising fall of Shedeur Sanders, who slipped all the way to the second round after once being projected as a top-three pick. There are plenty of storylines to follow after night one.

However, no one was more vocal in supporting Sanders during the night than Skip Bayless. Bayless was so active on social media that his posts started drawing attention from fans and media alike. In fact, Dan Wolken decided to have a little fun with it.

“Skip Bayless has tweeted about Shedeur Sanders so many times in the last three hours, we are on the verge of restraining order territory,” Wolken wrote.

Sanders isn’t the only notable prospect to drop into the second round. Will Johnson, the cornerback out of Michigan, was also expected to go in the first round, but teams clearly had other plans. Johnson dealt with injuries throughout the season for the Wolverines but managed to play through them at times.

Despite being ranked as the top cornerback in this year’s draft class, concerns over lingering knee issues have caused his stock to fall.

“Michigan CB Will Johnson Jr. has a knee issue that has concerned some NFL teams and helps explain why he still has not been selected,” Adam Schefter posted.

Whichever team takes Johnson will be getting a lockdown corner—if he can stay on the field. The big question is whether he can remain healthy for at least half the season. At full strength, he looked like a natural successor to Miami’s Jalen Ramsey.

Johnson is expected to be selected in the second round, and if he can resolve his knee issues, he could become a massive steal. As of now, it’s still unclear which team will take a chance on him.
