NFL insider Adam Schefter is pushing his chips to the middle of the table when it comes to Aaron Rodgers signing or not signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Schefter was a guest on ESPN Milwaukee and said that he believes Rodgers will indeed sign with the Steelers, which is widely expected to happen.
Schefter also adds that he thinks the decision will come down in the next week or so, with the ESPN insider pointing to the start of mandatory minicamp on June 10 as a reason for the future Hall of Famer making his decision soon.
"My guess is he's gonna wind up going (to Pittsburgh)," he said. "I think that we've heard Art Rooney, the team owner, say he expects Aaron Rodgers to sign there, and they have mandatory minicamp June 10th to the 12th. So, I would think that Rodgers is on the table here in the next week or so."
The Steelers are currently in the midst of the voluntary portion of the offseason program. While it would be nice to have Rodgers connecting with his teammates — and more specifically, the offense — right now, he isn't required to do so.
However, things change with mandatory minicamp, which is when business picks up a bit when it comes to OTAs. Rodgers has to start getting acclimated with his new teammates, and waiting until the start of training camp to do that isn't acceptable.
But, lest we forget, Rodgers is someone who marches to the beat of his own drum, so it's impossible to say with certainty he'll do what everyone thinks he should.
Why hasn't Aaron Rodgers made a decision?
The reason behind Rodgers' indecision isn't exactly known, but he did reveal on the "Joe Rogan Experience" on Wednesday that he has people in his life with cancer, and that he's in a "serious relationship."
"I've figured it out the last year when I've been in the weeds with these people who are close to me that have cancer," Rodgers said.
"I'm in a serious relationship," Rodgers explained. "I have off-the-field stuff going on that requires my attention. I have personal commitments I have made. I have a couple of people in my inner, inner circle who are battling some difficult stuff.
"So, I have a lot of things that are taking my attention."
Marriage rumors have been swirling around Rodgers since the Kentucky Derby, when he attended a party and was spotted with a possible wedding or engagement ring. That could certainly be part of the reason he has yet to make his decision.
Whatever the case may be, logic would dictate that a decision should be coming here soon, and we couldn't be more excited for this all to be over.
