Adam Schefter connects Jets to 3 prospects for No. 7 overall NFL draft pick

In the first year of a new regime led by head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey, nailing the 2025 NFL draft is crucial if the team wants to right the oft-wayward ship in East Rutherford.

The Jets will begin their draft with the No. 7 pick, where just about anything could be on the table with New York having several holes to fill on both sides of the ball.

In a recent article sharing the latest draft buzz ahead of the event, which begins on Thursday, April 24, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, ESPN's Adam Schefter listed three prospects to keep an eye on for the Jets later this week.

First, Schefter lists Penn State tight end Tyler Warren, who he says has left some in the organization "enamored" after a private workout. Schefter then mentions Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron as an option if the Jets want to go defense.

"So what the Jets wind up doing this week still is the subject of speculation, shrouded in more secrecy than usual. But they did recently and quietly have Penn State's Tyler Warren in for a visit, and there are certain members of their organization who are said to be enamored with the player many consider to be the top tight end in this class," he wrote. "If the Jets target the other side of the ball, some people around the league believe Glenn could target a cornerback, with Texas' Jahdae Barron as an option. Glenn, of course, played cornerback for 15 seasons in the NFL."

Along with those two, Schefter links the Jets to Missouri offensive tackle Armand Membou, who is a regular for the Jets in mock drafts. The ESPN insider also mentions the Las Vegas Raiders as a possible landing spot for Membou.

"Missouri offensive tackle Armand Membou now looks like a top-10 lock, with the Raiders (No. 6) and Jets (No. 7) being possible destinations," Schefter wrote.

While you can certainly debate about it being too early to take Warren or Barron in that spot, both picks fill a need.

Not only are the Jets extremely thin at tight end with unproven players like Jeremy Ruckert and Stone Smartt, the team needs more pass-catchers in general. Warren is widely considered the best tight end in this draft class and has the ability to be an electric playmaker at the next level.

After losing D.J. Reed to the Detroit Lions in free agency, the Jets signed Brandon Stephens to replace him. The problem is that Stephens struggled mightily in 2024 with the Baltimore Ravens and isn't guaranteed to be an adequate solution. His contract also allows the Jets to cut him without much pain in 2027.

While both are no doubt good prospects, we tend to believe the Jets will spring for an offensive tackle if given the opportunity.

Coming from Detroit, Glenn knows how important a good offensive line is and the Jets have major question marks at both tackle spots after the departures of Tyron Smith (retired) and Morgan Moses (New England Patriots).

The jury is still out on Olu Fashanu, and Chukwuma Okorafor will be a short-term solution and is a wild card after he quit on his team in 2024. Membou could solve New York's issue for a long time to come if both he and Fashanu pan out.
