The honeymoon period is always really short in the NFL. Teams get restless. They get impatient. If a new coach or coordinator isn't turning things around right away, things can get sticky.
There's no question that Aaron Glenn is a talented coach. He did wonders with the Detroit Lions' defense when he was their defensive coordinator. But, Glenn's time may be running out as the head coach of the New York Jets, according to one NFL analyst.
Even though Glenn was handed a hot mess, unfortunately, the NFL can still be unforgiving. So, it makes sense that he's getting this projection.
Aaron Glenn could be facing a critical season with the Jets
On Thursday, NFL analyst Bill Barnwell of ESPN unleashed a list of NFL players and staffers who he believes have a big year ahead. That could be a good or bad type of year. He highlights Glenn in here.
"It's tough to be a defensive-minded coach when the defense isn't any good," Barnwell says, half joking. "The Jets were a disaster on that side of the ball in 2025, becoming the first team in modern NFL history to finish without an interception."
He adds, "Trading away Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams obviously didn't help matters, but in his first year as a head coach, Glenn struggled with his handling of Justin Fields and the New York media."
So, even though Glenn had a difficult situation to deal with when he stepped into this role, we all know how the NFL works. After this past season, Glenn got rid of multiple assistant coaches and coordinators. It was a bloodbath. If this doesn't work, what will?
"It was difficult to blame Glenn for what happened last season, but if the Jets don't show major signs of improvement in 2026, it might be tough to find arguments to keep Glenn around for a third season in North Jersey," Barnwell says.
This is a situation to watch in 2026.
