Aaron Glenn defends Jets quarterback Justin Fields from detractors who say he's 'stat padding'

The New York Jets remain winless through five weeks of the 2025 NFL season and have a tall task ahead of them in Week 6 against the Denver Broncos.

While the defense remains dreadful and statistically sits towards the bottom of the league, the offense has been productive, specifically the ground game.

The passing numbers have been serviceable as well, but some detractors would point out that Jets quarterback Justin Fields' inflated numbers are thanks to garbage time stat padding when New York's games are already out of reach.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn pushed back on the narrative that his quarterback is "stat padding" at the end of games in his press conference from London today.

"I understand from the outside that people want to say we're getting yards because teams are (letting us). No. Teams play in this league. Nobody wants to just give up yards. I do think we get into a situation where we start to get in a groove and that's any quarterback. Justin has been getting in a groove in those situations ... I have no issues with where we're at in the passing game," said Glenn via The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt.

"I think we've done a pretty good job of starting fast. Defense we haven't done a good job at that. We didn't score a touchdown but we got ourselves in a position to give ourselves a chance to do that. I'm happy with how the offense has started."

While Glenn can say what he wants regarding the offense's fast starts, they've been unable to score a first-half touchdown since their Week 1 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

If the Jets want any chance of hanging around with the Broncos this weekend, who just took down the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles, the offense and defense are both going to have to get off to fast starts and keep the pedal to the metal for a chance at their first victory of the season.
