Detroit Tigers fans were left concerned for ace pitcher Tarik Skubal after he left his most recent start early with an apparent upper-body injury.
Skubal, 28, grabbed his side after throwing a pitch at the top of the fourth inning in the Tigers' 8-2 loss against the Miami Marlins on Friday. After trainers checked on him, he would leave the game and not return.
A lot of questions were left unanswered until manager A.J. Hinch provided an update to the Cy Young Award hopeful on Saturday.
A.J. Hinch provides a relieving update on Tarik Skubal
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said on Saturday that tests on ace pitcher Tarik Skubal came back negative, and he is expected to make his next scheduled start, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY.
This is huge news for the Detroit Tigers in their pursuit of the World Series in 2025. Skubal is arguably the best pitcher in all of baseball, and losing him would be a gutshot to the team's postseason aspirations.
The 2024 Cy Young Award winner, Skubal, is on pace to have an even better year than last. In 29 starts this season, he has a 13-5 record, 2.26 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and has struck out 224 in 183.1 innings.
Detroit will have to do some more work after going 6-11 over their last 17 games and losing the top record in the American League to the Toronto Blue Jays.
They will look to get things back on track on Saturday as they take on the Miami Marlins.
