The New England Patriots appear to have a new form of competition in their bid to trade for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown.
According to NFL Network's Brian Baldinger, there is some mutual interest between the Broncos and Eagles to pull off a trade for Brown.
“I know that there’s interest there on both sides. Maybe Tepid, but some interest. At least enough to inquire to what the asking price is," Baldinger reported.
The Broncos' need at wide receiver comes from the fact that the team could use one more veteran to join a group that includes Courtland Sutton and some promising but unproven young wideouts.
Adding Brown would give the Broncos one of the better one-two punches in the NFL, which would be a huge lift for quarterback Bo Nix.
The Patriots have been widely viewed as the team most likely to trade for Brown, although the Eagles' asking price remains a roadblock.
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo has previously reported that the Eagles are looking for a "Quinnen Williams-esque" package, which is at least a first-round pick and a second-round selection, an asking price that is no doubt steep.
Based on rumors, that has been too rich for the Patriots' blood up to this point and we would guess the Broncos might be in the same boat as of right now.
But that hasn't stopped the Broncos from inquiring, so perhaps a deal could get done.
