76ers VJ Edgecombe fouls out in FIBA World Cup qualifier

While the Philadelphia 76ers just recently named their Summer League roster, one key name was missing: VJ Edgecombe. The Sixers' first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft was a key part of their Eastern Conference Semi-Finals berth and their success throughout the season. But he wouldn't be returning to the Summer League for one potential key reason: the FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

Edgecombe has been a part of his nation's basketball team for some time, having spent time with them in 2024 for a round of qualifiers, which is the same for what he is doing at the moment. Last week, the Sixers star was a huge part of his team's win over Jamaica, finishing the game with 26 points and nine rebounds. It'd be worth noting that a key part of his game for the Bahamas was on the defensive end, ending the match with five steals to his name.

Edgecombe's early exit against Puerto Rico

All eyes would be on Edgecombe to see how he'd build on that performance when the Bahamas took on Puerto Rico on Monday night. But the Sixers guard wouldn't make it through the match, having his night get called early after picking up his fifth personal foul, which is the limit you can accrue, unlike the NBA's six-foul statute.

Despite this early exit, the Bahamian star would dazzle on the court, ending his shift with 19 points on 50-percent shooting from the field. But similarly to his outing against Jamaica, he would record five steals, proving to be a pest for the Puerto Rican offense. It will put a wrap on this batch of national team games, as the FIBA World Cup qualifying path won't resume until late August.

All of his performances give the NBA world and the Philadelphia faithful alike a glimpse into seeing what Edgecombe has been working on since the 76ers' season wrapped up a few months back.
