76ers star returns to FIBA World Cup Qualifiers with stellar outing

When the Bahamian National Team resumed its qualification schedule for the 2027 FIBA World Cup, it did so without one of its more pivotal figures: VJ Edgecombe. The Philadelphia 76ers star hadn't been with the team, along with another former Sixer in Eric Gordon. The absence of the second-year star and his veteran counterpart didn't impact the Bahamian side all too much, as they cruised to a 103-94 victory over Uruguay, with Buddy Hield igniting for 28 points.

But Edgecombe's participation in the team was one of the main talking points going into their match against Panama, as it was previously reported that he might return to the international stage, and return he did.

On Monday night, the Sixers' star took to the court for his country and gave the basketball world a look into what he's been working on over the last few months, dropping 25 points, with seven of his 16 makes coming from beyond the arc. His efforts played a large part in the Bahamas' 100-82 victory over Panama, which brings their record up to 4-4 with 12 points, sitting below Canada, Argentina, and the aforementioned Uruguay.

While his competition isn't entirely NBA-level talent, his appearance and performance isn't anything to scoff at, as it provides the Sixers star to show off what he's been tweaking in the lab, coming off of a season that saw him earn All-Rookie honors, averaging 16 points and 5.6 rebounds per game across his 75 outings.

Given the additions that Philadelphia has made over the course of the offseason, it will be imperative to see Edgecombe progress in his second year in the league.
