On Friday night, the Philadelphia 76ers will take on the New York Knicks in their second meeting of the season and the first game of the NBA Cup. When the two sides squared off on Opening Night, it was ring night for the Knicks as they lifted their championship banner into the rafters at Madison Square Garden, but it was the start of a new era for the 76ers.
An era that has gotten off to a 4-1 start, with several of the Sixers' players firing off on all cylinders, whether it's Tyrese Maxey, who is putting up 28.4 points a night, or Joel Embiid, who has appeared to be a constant presence on the team, which is always something to monitor with his injury record.
But there's been another player to really show up for Philadelphia: Jaylen Brown. The former Boston Celtics star is trying to change face in the City of Brotherly Love, and he's been giving the Philadelphia faithful something to cheer about, averaging 20.6 points a night on 44.2 percent from the field, proving to be the perfect complement to the aforementioned Maxey's skill set.
While he did go off against New York on Opening Night, the same might not be said for Friday.
Brown "questionable" against New York
The Philadelphia 76ers' initial injury report against the Knicks: Jaylen Brown listed as "questionable" due to left knee soreness Jabari Walker to remain out, as will Dominick Barlow https://t.co/yx2p0HPSB3
— Declan Harris (@DecIanH) October 29, 2026According to the NBA's injury report, Brown has been downgraded to "questionable" due to left knee soreness. If he is to sit out against the Knicks, it would be his first absence of the season, and it would leave the Sixers with quite the hole to fill.
This isn't to say that Nick Nurse doesn't have quality choices to choose from to fill in for Brown, with the likes of VJ Edgecombe, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Anfernee Simons, and rookie Labaron Philon Jr., all being able to share the backcourt with Maxey.
Tip-off between Philadelphia and New York on Friday is slated for 7:30 p.m. EST.
