The LeBron James sweepstakes continue to grow more interesting by the day as teams begin to better understand their positioning. Some franchises believe they have a legitimate chance to land James.

James’ agent, Rich Paul, hosts a podcast with Max Kellerman, and on Friday morning he provided clear insight into the situation. Paul also noted that James would already be a New York Knick if they had not won the NBA championship.

“If the Knicks hadn’t won, there would be no board. He’d be going to the Knicks…. Jalen Brunson would literally have to pick up the phone and say ‘hey man, there’s no issue with me.’ They (Knicks) have checked in,” Paul said.

James and Paul have remained in constant communication about his future. They are closely monitoring roster situations, contender status, and overall fit for the veteran star. It has also been reported that James met with the Warriors this week.

“LeBron James is preparing to meet with the Warriors this week as an unrestricted free agent. After Draymond Green opted out today, Golden State has the necessary flexibility to sign LeBron and trade for Anthony Davis. LeBron leaving the Lakers is gaining significant traction,” NBA reporter Evan Sidery wrote.

On the podcast, Paul also referenced a whiteboard listing teams James is considering. The group included several franchises such as the Warriors, Spurs, 76ers, and Knicks.

“Rich Paul made a white board with ‘realistic destinations’ for LeBron. 76ers, Knicks, Cavs, TWolves, Nuggets, Heat, Warriors, Celtics, Spurs, and Mavs,” Bleacher Report posted.

James has made it clear that he will take his time throughout the decision-making process. The 76ers, Knicks, Spurs, and Warriors all believe they have a real chance to land him. At the moment, Philadelphia appears to be the frontrunner among that group.

The Spurs remain a team to watch as well, especially with their young core and the opportunity to play alongside Victor Wembanyama. This process is shaping up to be a fascinating one, and teams are beginning to better understand where they stand as it unfolds.
