While the Philadelphia 76ers' starting lineup over the last season consisted of some of the mainstays that some would have expected, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George, among others, it gained a few new constants throughout the season. The first of which was the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, VJ Edgecombe, who exploded onto the scene for Philadelphia, averaging 16 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, shooting with an efficient 43.8 percent accuracy from the field.
But there was another new face in the City of Brotherly Love, Dominick Barlow, who would prove to be an unsung hero for the Sixers. Having joined the team in the previous offseason on a two-way deal, meaning that he'd have the possibility of appearing in the G League, he'd make the most of his NBA minutes, averaging a career-high 7.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per night across his 71 appearances, with 59 of those featuring the New Jersey native in the starting lineup.
One of the facets that made Barlow such an attractive option for Nick Nurse's starting lineup is that, consistently, he would find himself in the right spot at the right time in transition, or doing the dirty work on the glass, coming up with some timely rebounds throughout the Sixers' Eastern Conference semi-finals run.
Given his output in the early parts of the season, it was no surprise when Philadelphia's front office converted his two-way deal into a standard NBA contract in early February, but it's starting to look like Barlow will be in the Xfinity Mobile Arena for yet another season.
The Sixers believe in Barlow

— Philadelphia 76ers (@sixers) June 29, 2026On Monday, it was announced by the Sixers that they'd be opting into the 23-year-old's team option for the 2026-27 campaign, taking up roughly $3.4 million of the team's cap space, which will avoid Barlow hitting unrestricted free agency. Given the heights that he hit during the season, this shouldn't have come as too much of a surprise to the Sixers' front office, especially looking towards their existing depth chart for the upcoming season, with their wing spots looking a bit bare.
It's also worth noting that throughout Nick Nurse's time with Philadelphia, he's managed to use every player available to him, not being afraid to utilize the two-way players and rewarding them handsomely. During his first season with the Sixers, Nurse used the likes of Ricky Council IV and Jeff Dowtin extensively at the NBA level, with Council becoming a part of the roster for the following season.
In the same breath that Philadelphia announced the extension of Barlow's deal, they did the same for Dalen Terry, who played a bit of a smaller role down the stretch for the Sixers, appearing in 14 games, averaging 4.1 points and 1.6 assists.
