The 2026 FIFA World Cup finale is right around the corner, where Spain and Argentina will face each other off for the golden trophy at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19.
The month-long tournament that kicked off June 11 in Mexico City was powered by free fan fests in the three hosting countries (Mexico, Canada, and United States), passionate aficionados, and great soccer-themed music, including the 2026 official FIFA World Cup song, “Dai Dai” by Shakira and Burna Boy.
Released in May, this year’s anthem seamlessly blended Afrobeats, dance-pop, world beats and reggaetón, bridging the musical worlds of the Nigerian star and Colombian sensation. The lyrics kept true to the spirit of soccer, sending a motivational and uplifting message, as well as shouting out a group of soccer icons including Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Beckham and Kaká.
“It’s a message for every child who’s been told that their dream is too big,” Shakira previously said. “And to remind us that every champion started out as a kid who perhaps went through hardship and struggles, but there was someone that believed in them, and that’s why they didn’t give up.”
Additionally, 100 percent of the song’s royalties will be donated to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which provides education and soccer resources to children around the world.
“Dai Dai” marks the second time Shakira a.k.a. the Queen of World Cup Music has been tapped for an official FIFA World Cup song following the timeless “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” recorded for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, which peaked at No. 2 on the Hot Latin Songs, Latin Airplay and Latin Pop Airplay charts in July 2010.
However, due to the rapid virality and momentum it gained on social media, “Dai Dai” has without a doubt become a historic World Cup song. See the many ways how below.
