20-year-old left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma impressed on her debut in the ongoing T20Is between India Women and Sri Lanka Women. She made her maiden international appearance for the Women in Blue in the first T20I in Visakhapatnam on December 21, 2025.

In her debut game, Vaishnavi Sharma bowled an economical spell, returning figures of 0/16 from her four overs. She featured in the second game as well and showcased her talent on the big stage with figures of 2/32 from four overs.

India leads the five-match T20I series 2-0. Having performed well so far, Vaishnavi is expected to play more games in the series and will be hoping to go from strength to strength.

Notably, she made it to the Indian team on the back of her stellar performances in domestic and U-19 cricket.

#5 Vaishnavi Sharma made her U-16 debut for Madhya Pradesh at the age of 11

Vaishnavi Sharma's cricketing journey began at a very young age. She picked up a bat and a ball at the age of just four and set on the path to take up the sport professionally. She rose through the ranks quickly and began training at the age of just five.

Vaishnavi made her U-16 debut for Madhya Pradesh at a young age of just 11 years. Her talent was recognised during the 2022-23 junior domestic season, where she won the Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy for Best Women's Cricketer.


#4 First cricketer from Chambal region to represent India

Vaishnavi Sharma was born on December 18, 2005, in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. With her India debut, she created history by becoming the first player from the Chambal region to don the national colors.

When in Gwalior, she trains at the Tansen Cricket Academy. Apart from that, she also trains at the facilities of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association and the Gwalior District Cricket Association.


#3 Highest wicket-taker at the U19 Women's T20 World Cup 2025

India won the ICC U-19 Women's T20 World Cup 2025 by beating South Africa in the final. Vaishnavi Sharma played a key role in the final, bowling a match-winning spell of 2/23 from four overs. Moreover, she played a huge role in India's victory, ending as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 17 scalps from six games at an average of 4.35 and an economy of 3.36.

Further, she showcased her consistent performances in domestic cricket. She picked up the most wickets in the Senior Women's T20 Trophy 2025 with 21 scalps from 11 matches. She was also the joint highest wicket-taker in the Senior Women's Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy 2025 with 12 scalps from five matches.


#2 Unsold at WPL 2026 auction

Notably, Vaishnavi Sharma made it to the Indian team without having played a single match in the Women's Premier League (WPL) so far. She had registered herself for the WPL 2026 auction.

The 20-year-old had a base price of ₹10 lakhs under the uncapped category. However, she was unfortunately unsold at the auction despite her impressive domestic performances. Soon after the auction, she made her India debut with her consistent display in domestic cricket being rewarded despite having no WPL contract.


#1 Vaishnavi Sharma's father found out her two avenues of success early on

Vaishnavi Sharma's father, Dr Narendra Sharma, an astrologer, found out two avenues where his daughter would be successful early on. He looked into her horoscope when she was born and identified medicine and sport as the two avenues.

“When Vaishnavi was born, we drew out her kundali (horoscope) and found that she has two avenues of success—medicine and sport. At the time, I thought that if she became a doctor, the city would know her, but if she succeeded in a sport, the world would,” he told Sportstar.

Notably, her father played a massive role in her initial training, giving her throwdowns at home and taking her to camps during summer holidays. Despite a lot of opposition from relatives, he saw her talent and supported her to pursue cricket.
