49ers work out former Eagles first-round bust offensive tackle

The San Francisco 49ers fell in Week 6 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-19. It was a tough loss, as San Francisco saw defensive leader Fred Warner go down with a season-ending injury.

The 49ers are 4-2, and tied atop the NFC West with the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams. To get back on track, the 49ers welcome the Atlanta Falcons, who are coming off an impressive win over the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football.

In the week leading up to the matchup against the Falcons, the 49ers hosted a few players for workouts, including a former first-round bust of the Philadelphia Eagles, according to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero.

Pelissero reports that the 49ers hosted offensive tackle Andre Dillard for a workout following the 49ers' Week 6 loss to the Buccaneers. Dillard is a 30-year-old offensive tackle who was a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Selected by the Eagles at 22nd overall, Dillard struggled to find his footing in Philadelphia before eventually being overtaken by Jordan Mailata. He then landed with the Tennessee Titans, where he started ten games in 2023, then headed to the Green Bay Packers in 2024, where he played in ten games, but never started for Green Bay.

After becoming a free agent after the 2024 season, the 49ers signed Dillard before eventually placing him on the Physically Unable to Perform List over the summer.

He was then activated in August from the PUP, then placed on injured reserve a few days later, before the 49ers, ahead of the 2025 NFL season, decided to release the offensive tackle.

Dillard hasn't been a terrible offensive lineman during his playing time, but his major struggles in 2023 with the Titans, when, according to PFF, he allowed 12 sacks and 41 pressures in 331 pass blocking reps.

While he's a free agent right now, the 49ers, who signed him earlier in the offseason, could look to bring him back for extra depth along the offensive line. He'd be a decent option on the practice squad or on the bench, even if he doesn't always suit up for game day.

But, for now, the former Eagles first-rounder only had a workout with the 49ers, as San Francisco and Kyle Shanahan weigh their options following a Week 6 loss to the Buccaneers, and ahead of a Week 7 matchup against the red-hot Falcons.
