The Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers are no strangers to each other when it comes to trade talks.
Pittsburgh and San Fran were involved in discussions over wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in 2024, and they could get conversations going around Jauan Jennings in 2025.
That's because Jennings has requested a new contract or a trade from the Niners, and the Steelers are a team that could use more help at wide receiver.
Bleacher Report's Matt Holder wants to see the two sides come together in a trade involving Jennings. Holder calls it the one trade the Steelers need to make before embarking on the 2025 campaign.
"Speaking of quarterbacks in their 40s, the Steelers should consider adding another receiver for Aaron Rodgers," Holder said. "Robert Woods is projected to be their No. 2 out wide, and Jennings is basically a younger and (at this stage in their careers) better version of Woods."
Jennings would instantly slide in as the Steelers' No. 2 wide receiver opposite DK Metcalf, as Pittsburgh has nothing but shaky options in the wide receivers group currently.
There's no telling what Roman Wilson will be able to offer after an injury-plagued rookie year, Robert Woods is clearly well past his prime and Calvin Austin should really be a No. 3 option at most in a wide receivers room rather than the No. 2 he might end up being.
Granted, Jennings hasn't exactly cemented himself after posting 416 yards or less in each of his first three seasons, but he did break out in 2024 with 975 yards and six scores in 15 games.
That's more yards and touchdowns than Austin and Wilson have ever tallied in a year of their respective careers, and Woods hasn't totaled anything close to that many yards in a season since 2020.
Assuming Jennings actually becomes available, the Steelers would probably have to give up a Day 3 pick before extending Jennings, who is projected to receive a two-year, $20 million deal by Spotrac.
If the Steelers are truly going for it in 2025, they can't stand pat with the receivers they have. Adding Jennings would take care of that problem, and could do so for multiple years.
