49ers place Alfred Collins on IR among 3 roster moves before kickoff with Rams

With just a few hours to go before kickoff against the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers have announced a few roster moves.

The 49ers officially placed defensive tackle Alfred Collins on injured reserve.

Along with that move, the Niners elevated wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge and defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo from the practice squad.

Collins' placement on injured reserve is a result of his suffering a torn patellar tendon at practice during the week.

He will now miss all of the 2025 campaign.

"Alfred tore his patellar tendon yesterday," head coach Kyle Shanahan said. "That was a big loss. We've lost two D-lineman pretty much for the year after cuts and before the first game which has been a huge challenge. I'm hurting for Alfred."

The injury occurred during Tuesday's practice.

Collins, who was a second-round pick in 2025, is the second defensive lineman to suffer a serious injury for San Francisco recently, with the other being Sam Okuayinonu, who came down with a broken foot that required surgery.

A former Pro Bowler as a returner, Hodge has recorded 67 catches for 1,026 yards and two touchdowns over 118 career games.

Okoronkwo is a seven-year veteran who has tallied 17 sacks and 132 tackles over 81 career games (13 starts).

The 49ers and Rams will kick off from Melbourne, Australia, at 8:35 p.m. ET.
