By this point, everyone knows that Brock Purdy was Mr. Irrelevant, taken with the very last pick in the very last round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
He's risen well above his status, becoming a promising young quarterback who is now deep in the midst of contract extension talks.
An NFL team can never be too proactive at the QB position, though, and so the 49ers could look to draft another passer in this month's NFL Draft.
In fact, the 49ers might just use a late round again to try and replicate the Purdy selection.
SI's Grant Cohn projects the 49ers to take Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord in the draft in a few weeks.
McCord started at Ohio State in 2023 and then transferred to SU for a monster season with 4,779 passing yards and 34 touchdowns.

"McCord actually has a stronger arm than Jones and Purdy," Cohn writes, "and his deep-ball accuracy is outstanding. He would be a terrific low-risk, high-reward draft pick in Round 4 or 5."
McCord almost certainly won't be Mr. Irrelevant, but he could quickly become relevant to the 49ers if they pick him.
