The San Francisco 49ers lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but one of the more pressing issues mounting for the team is all of the injuries they're dealing with.
George Kittle, Brock Purdy, Ricky Pearsall, and Nick Bosa were all out for this Week 6 contest, and there are plenty more injury concerns. Fred Warner, their All-Pro linebacker, is done for the year after a gruesome injury.
But one of the more stunning developments was heard from Jauan Jennings postgame in the locker room. David Lombardi of sfstandard.com shared comments from Jennings that revealed the star 49ers wide receiver is playing through five broken ribs.
49ers' Jauan Jennings is playing through a brutal injury
"You got ribs, five broken ribs. It is what it is. You keep playing, nobody cares, keep playing, it's what we do." Jennings said. "Yeah, I've got five broken ribs."

— David Lombardi (@LombardiHimself) October 12, 2025This is a brutal injury revealed by Jennings, as playing through one broken rib is already an incredibly difficult task, and to be fighting through five broken ribs is far from normal.
San Francisco is hurting badly with their injuries as an organization. While Kittle, Purdy, and Pearsall will all come back at some point, these injuries are starting to mount for the 49ers as the season progresses.
The 49ers lost to the Buccaneers 30-19 to drop to 4-2. They're still in great shape for the division and a playoff berth, but with these injuries stacking up, and now with Jennings revealing his brutal diagnosis, it's a tall task to finish out the year strong.
Jennings played through five broken ribs on Sunday, and he played like someone who was doing so. He caught one pass for seven yards on three targets. With Mac Jones completing 27 passes, Jennings's lack of involvement was a noteworthy story from the loss.

But, with this update, his usage and play make a lot more sense. Jennings, dealing with five broken ribs, isn't playing near 100 percent strength. But the 28-year-old is trying to fight through it, even though the injury is a brutal one.
So far this season, Jennings has played in four games and has totaled 129 receiving yards on nine catches to go with one touchdown. His lackluster play isn't hard to misunderstand, as he's very banged up.
As ESPN's Adam Schefter shared, Jennings is also dealing with high and low ankle sprains, further complicating his health going forward.
49ers WR Jauan Jennings told reporters that he is playing with five broken ribs, and high and low ankle sprains.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 12, 2025Through six weeks of the NFL season, Jauan Jennings has five broken ribs, a low ankle sprain, and a high ankle sprain. He's missed only two games so far, but these injuries are not going to go away anytime soon, and his status going forward is very much in question.
