The San Francisco 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5, reaching 5-0 and tying the Minnesota Vikings for the best record in the NFL.
However, in their big win over Seattle, the 49ers got some bad news about a key player. Deebo Samuel, a resurgent WR for the 49ers, has a hamstring injury and was quickly ruled out in the middle of the game.
After the game, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport shared an update on Samuel, and it's not good news. Unfortunately, it looks like Samuel will miss time, with "several weeks" seemingly on the table.
Deebo Samuel might miss 'several weeks' with hamstring injury
"But judging from the context clues," Rapoport said, "the fact that the 49ers ruled Deebo Samuel out immediately is not a good sign, but generally, for fast-twitch guys who need to run like Deebo needs to run when they have a hamstring injury, generally that is several weeks."

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 12, 2026This update from Rapoport is a tough blow for the 49ers offense once again, as they continue to lose wide receivers this season.
De'Zhuan Stribling and Demarcus Robinson were hurt earlier in the year, and Christian Kirk came into the season out due to injury. Mike Evans has been banged up as well, further complicating matters for this offense.
If Samuel, one of the 49ers' biggest offensive weapons, were to miss multiple weeks as this report indicates, the 49ers have a good opportunity to give him ample rest without placing him on injured reserve.

With the 49ers' Week 8 bye, they'll play just two more weeks before they have their bye. If they wanted to give Samuel three to four weeks to recover, they could avoid placing him on IR, as three weeks might only mean two games missed with the bye.
If he were to land on IR before Week 6, then he'd have to miss at least through Week 10. With their IR spots already limited, so long as Samuel can return somewhat soon, he should avoid hitting IR with the bye week helping out the 49ers.
Unfortunately, one thing seems clear after this update from Rapoport: the 49ers have once again sustained a significant injury to their team, and once again have lost a wide receiver. Samuel is likely to miss time, with the only question being how long.
