49ers get great news on free agency as 'sneaky contender' for top WR, DL

The San Francisco 49ers have some work to do this offseason. While there are needs all across the roster, the two main needs are at wide receiver and the defensive line.

Both have some issues needing to be addressed, which John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan will figure out this offseason. Fortunately, it looks like the 49ers will find some good options this offseason.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the 49ers are a "sneaky contender" to land some of the top defensive linemen and wide receivers in this year's free agent class.

"The 49ers are a sneaky contender for some of the good free agents along the defensive line and at wide receiver," Fowler reports.

This offseason, the 49ers need to add a wide receiver and at least one pass rusher to the defense. While it could come in the form of a trade or draft pick, free agency is also a big area to improve the team.

At wide receiver, if the 49ers add a top option, they could be bringing in one of the following: Tyreek Hill, Mike Evans, Jauan Jennings, Alec Pierce, Romeo Doubs, or Rashid Shaheed.

Re-signing Jennings is on the table, but if the team wanted to shake things up, there are some solid wide receiver options they could turn to. Evans might be the most fun one of the bunch, and he'd be a great fit in San Francisco.

At edge rusher, the 49ers could turn to one of Trey Hendrickson, Khalil Mack, Haason Reddick, Joey Bosa, Jaelan Phillips, Odafe Oweh, K'Lavon Chaisson, Boye Mafe, or Joseph Ossai.

There are plenty of other options the 49ers could turn to along the defensive line, including someone like John Franklin-Myers, Calais Campbell, D.J. Reader, or David Onyemata.

Overall, the 49ers have plenty of options at both wide receiver and along the defensive line. With Fowler reporting the 49ers are a "sneaky contender" for the best players at both of these positions this offseason, the 49ers could be in store for a fun offseason.
