49ers free agency rumor could lead to veteran pass-catcher signing with Patriots, Chiefs or Raiders

The San Francisco 49ers have yet to re-sign wide receiver Jauan Jennings, and it sounds like the veteran will be playing with a new franchise in 2026.

According to Chris Simms of Pro Football Talk, Jennings priced himself out in free agency, and the 49ers pivoted away from bringing him back to instead sign Mike Evans.

"What did Jauan Jennings price himself at? The 49ers, I will say it, I know my friend [Kyle Shanahan] liked Jauan. They thought he was a good player, but he’s overpriced himself here and he fit the system in what they did, but they obviously felt they couldn’t get something done with him to where they pivoted to Mike Evans," Simms said on the Pro Football Talk podcast.

Jennings has posted solid production over the last two seasons, but his free agent market hasn't been what he expected.

With Jennings still a free agent after nearly two weeks since the market opened, his asking price in a deal has likely gone down, which is great news for the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, and Las Vegas Raiders.

All three teams could use more receiving talent and could land Jennings on a bargain deal.

New England already signed Romeo Doubs, but quarterback Drake Maye needs as many playmakers as possible. The same goes for Las Vegas, who also added a receiver in free agency in Jalen Nailor. Presumed No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza wouldn't mind having a deep arsenal of capable pass-catchers.

Kansas City lacks experience at receiver, and Jennings could solve that problem with his 32 career starts.

Jennings should find a new home sooner rather than later, as he's one of the top free agents remaining and can be a difference-maker in the right offense.
