San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle saw his 2025 season end with an Achilles injury, and now the All-Pro is on the comeback trail.
Playing just 11 games, his lowest since 2020, fans are hoping that Kittle can get on the field early in 2026 to help Brock Purdy and the offense push towards an NFC West title.
But as we know, Achilles injuries are serious, and the 49ers won't be taking any risks with their star tight end in his rehab.
And now general manager John Lynch has delivered an update, via ESPN's Nick Wagoner, about George's Week 1 prospects.
#49ers expecting DEs Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams to be ready for training camp in some capacity (potentially eased back in).
John Lynch says team is "hopeful" that TE George Kittle will be available in Week 1, noting that he's progressing well from Achilles injury.

49ers ready for NFC West battle
The 49ers will hope Kittle is back as soon as possible, because the NFC West has developed into an arms race.
The Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams are looming as genuine Super Bowl contenders, and you can say the same for the 49ers, who added Mike Evans in free agency.
The injury bug has to stay away, and if it does, and the 49ers can play to the level they know they can, the NFC West will go down to the wire.
And having a healthy Kittle might give San Francisco the edge it needs over the competition.
