With 2025 coming to a close, it is time to reflect on the incredible year that has gone by. While the WWE Universe was treated to some incredible matches, such as John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes, CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns, and AJ Styles vs. John Cena, not all matches announced by the promotion went through.
Some of its plans were derailed due to injury or logistical issues, which led the company to make changes to matches that had already been made official. In this listicle, we will take a look at four such matches at premium live events that got canceled for one reason or another.
4. Dominik Mysterio vs. AJ Styles - WWE Night of Champions
Dominik Mysterio vs. AJ Styles was one of the most entertaining feuds of the year, which resulted in the fans seeing Styles' funny side. The veteran had several hilarious backstage segments with Dominik and was supposed to face him at Night of Champions.

However, the match had to be called off as Mysterio had suffered a legitimate rib injury and was not medically cleared to compete.
3. Naomi vs. Stephanie Vaquer - WWE Clash in Paris
Stephanie Vaquer has had a meteoric rise in the truest sense of the phrase in 2025. The Chilean arrived in NXT at the start of the year and is now the Women's World Champion after a fast-tracked move to the main roster. She won a women's battle royale at Evolution 2025 to earn a shot at the Women's World Title, which was held by Naomi at the time.
However, The Glow had to vacate the title right before Clash in Paris due to pregnancy. As a result, the match was called off, and Vaquer eventually defeated IYO SKY at Wrestlepalooza to win her first WWE world title.
2. Rey Mysterio vs. El Grande Americano - WrestleMania 41
The first quarter of the year featured Rey Mysterio feuding with El Grande Americano, who was portrayed by Chad Gable at the time. The two were set to battle at WrestleMania 41 to settle their differences, but Mysterio suffered a real-life injury on the episode of SmackDown before the premium live event.
The unfortunate injury kept the legend away from programming for almost half a year. On the other hand, Rey Fenix replaced the legend for his match with El Grande Americano at WrestleMania 41.
1. Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens - WrestleMania 41
Randy Orton and Kevin Owens had been feuding since the end of 2024, and it seemed likely that they would finally end their heated rivalry with a barn-burner at WWE WrestleMania 41. However, Owens reported that he had to undergo surgery to fix a serious neck injury and would be out indefinitely.
This led to Orton vs. Owens being scrapped, and The Viper ended up hosting an open challenge at the event. Orton was ultimately challenged by Joe Hendry, the TNA World Champion at the time, and was defeated comfortably by the legend in a brief encounter.
