Dominik Mysterio's reign as Intercontinental Champion came to an abrupt end on this week's WWE RAW, as the young star made the mistake of interrupting and picking a fight with John Cena in his hometown of Boston, Massachusetts. None of "Dirty" Dom's tricks worked, as Cena defeated him to win the Intercontinental Championship for the first time in his career.
Following the massive setback, here are four ways Dominik Mysterio could bounce back:
#4. Betray The Judgment Day
Tensions between the Judgment Day members have been increasing with each passing week. Despite several teases of a split, nothing major has happened yet.
Secret reason behind John Cena's massive win - Watch Here!
That said, after losing the IC Title, Mysterio was visibly upset with his stablemates for not being there to help him defeat John Cena. This should trigger the much-awaited implosion of The Judgment Day.
Turning on his faction members would kickstart an exciting storyline for Dominik, putting him right back into the spotlight after a massive loss.
#3. Move up to the World Heavyweight Championship scene
Being a midcard title, the Intercontinental Championship is known to prepare WWE Superstars before moving up to the main event scene. While that purpose hasn't been served with every ex-champion, it should with Dominik Mysterio.
The King of Luchadores is among the most popular stars in the company. Fans love to hate Dominik, as he never fails to evoke a reaction from the crowd. Therefore, the young Mysterio should carry this momentum to the main event scene by setting his sights on the World Heavyweight Championship.
#2. Answer Ilja Dragunov's US Title Open Challenge and defeat him
The US Title Open Challenge, first revived by Sami Zayn during his reign, now continued by the reigning champion, Ilja Dragunov, is one of the most anticipated parts of SmackDown every week.
To ensure Mysterio maintains his momentum, the Triple H-led creative team could move him to the blue brand and have him dethrone Dragunov as the US Champion. A change of scenery and a fresh set of opponents would help the 28-year-old to continue his entertaining run.
#1. Dominik Mysterio could dethrone John Cena in his retirement match
The Last Time is Now Tournament is underway to determine John Cena's final opponent at Saturday Night's Main Event XLII. If Dominik Mysterio isn't granted a rematch for the IC Title, he could enter the tournament and go on to win it.
He could face The Cenation Leader in his last match in WWE and regain the Intercontinental Championship on December 13. This would allow the young Mysterio to not only get his momentum back, but also reach a whole new level as the star who retired The GOAT.
