The Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby turns 38 years old today, which is hard to believe. The 20 year veteran has aged like a fine well, still putting up performances year after year looking like his prime self.

It is worth looking back on Crosby's legendary career today as the birthday boy is approaching some historic milestones this upcoming 25-26 season, which will be his 21st in the NHL.

During his stint in Pittsburgh, Crosby has amassed a staggering 1,687 points. This is just 13 points away from the elusive 1,700 point mark. This is a marker that only 8 other players have ever reached in the entire history of the NHL, which would make Sid the 9th to cross this threshold.

The 8 players in question who have passed 1,700 points include Wayne Gretzky, Jaromir Jagr, Mark Messier, Gordie Howe, Ron Francis, Marcel Dionne, Steve Yzerman and fellow Penguin Mario Lemieux.

Sidney is just 41 points away from moving ahead of Lemieux for the 8th highest player in NHL history in regards to points. Of even greater note, this would also make him Pittsburgh's all time leading scorer in its franchise's existence.

It will be fun to watch how much progress Crosby can make on the leaderboard this upcoming season and beyond as his career slowly but surely winds down. No active player in the NHL has achieved as much in the game as Sidney from a production and accolades standpoint. It is also hard to find a player in the modern game of hockey has made a larger impact on the legacy of the sport.

It is important for fans to enjoy watching these legends while they still have the pleasure of doing so.
