Tonight's post-WWE Saturday Night Main Event XLI edition of Friday Night SmackDown ended with a bang. It introduced a new drama, where General Manager Nick Aldis suspended Drew McIntyre after he caused chaos in the main event.
The main event saw Cody Rhodes, the workhorse champion, once again in action, this time against Aleister Black, who had issued him a challenge during the kickoff segment.
The blue brand had a controversial ending to the match, as two stars were engaged in a tough fight. Drew McIntyre, out of nowhere, took out the referee with a Claymore kick. Black joined in, and both heels began attacking the champion.
Damian Priest, who has been in a feud with the Dutchman for a long time, rushed to save Rhodes. Things became chaotic during the main event. GM Nick Aldis came out and suspended McIntyre, marking a perfect cliffhanger ending.
In this article, we will look at three reasons why WWE suspended The Scottish Warrior.
#3. To give him a break
With the suspension angle on Friday Night SmackDown tonight, the Stamford-based promotion may have written the Scotsman off television, as he has been a workhorse for the company for a long time.
Drew might take a break for a few weeks and could return right after WWE Survivor Series: WarGames, since the sports entertainment juggernaut could not just keep him on the road without involving him in mid-card storylines, as he is one of the top heel stars on the current roster.
#2. He could leave WWE SmackDown
The Chosen One has been on the blue brand for a long time and has competed against nearly every top talent on the roster. His suspension might lead him to leave the brand and embark on a new journey.
The Scottish Warrior could begin a new chapter by striking a deal with Adam Pearce, joining Monday Night RAW, switching brands, and adding new flavor to the promotion.
#1. To start a feud with the GM
For weeks, World Wrestling Entertainment has been fueling tensions between McIntyre and Aldis, and the blue brand General Manager suspending Drew could escalate the heat and make their rivalry more physical.
This could also mark the in-ring debut of Nick Aldis, as he is far from the in-ring action.
