New Jersey Devils defenseman Simon Nemec has been a frequent topic in the rumor mill throughout this season. It has only continued even though the Devils’ season is over.
If the Devils end up making Nemec available for trade, he would certainly generate interest around the league, given that he is a former second-overall pick who is only 22 years old and has shown promise early in his NHL career.
Due to this, let’s take a look at three teams that could pursue Nemec this off-season.
San Jose Sharks
The San Jose Sharks would make a lot of sense as a suitor for Nemec this summer. While they have several exciting young forwards, their blueline is in need of some serious help.
Bringing in a young right-shot defenseman like Nemec, who has the potential to become a top-pairing defenseman, would make a lot of sense for San Jose. This is especially true given that they are entering the off-season with many pending unrestricted free-agent defensemen.

Boston Bruins
One of the Boston Bruins’ top needs is to improve the right side of their blueline. After Charlie McAvoy, the Bruins’ right side is incredibly weak. This will only be more of the case if pending UFA Andrew Peeke signs elsewhere this offseason.
Because of this, it would make all the sense in the world for Boston to target Nemec this summer. He would give the retooling Bruins a long-term answer for their top four, which would be huge for them.

Anaheim Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks could be another team to keep an eye on if the Devils shop Nemec this offseason. Right-shot defensemen John Carlson, Jacob Trouba, and Radko Gudas are all pending UFAs heading into the summer.
With this in mind, the Ducks could look to bring in a young defenseman like Nemec this offseason. He could be a perfect fit on their roster as they look to take another step in the right direction next season.
