ESPN’s Kevin Weekes reported on Saturday that the New Jersey Devils are testing Jacob Markstrom’s trade market. This comes after the 36-year-old had a tough 2025-26 season, posting an .883 save percentage and a 3.07 goals-against average in 44 games.
While Markstrom certainly had an underwhelming season for the Devils, he has the potential to generate trade interest. His past success makes him a prime bounce-back candidate for next season, and this year’s free agent goalie options are not the strongest.
Because of this, let’s look at three teams that could trade for Markstrom this off-season.
Edmonton Oilers
Whenever a big-name goalie enters the rumor mill, it is hard not to include the Oilers as a potential suitor for them. The Oilers desperately need to improve between the pipes, as Tristan Jarry has not been the answer for their starting goalie role. If they acquired Markstrom and he regained his all-star form, he would give them a much-needed upgrade.
However, the big question is whether the Oilers would be willing to take a gamble on Markstrom. They need more stability between the pipes, so Markstrom’s struggles this season could make them hesitant to bring him in.

Florida Panthers
Could the Panthers and Markstrom reunite 12 years after Florida traded him to the Vancouver Canucks? The possibility could be there if the Panthers lose pending UFA goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. If Markstrom turned things around in Florida, he could be a nice replacement for Bobrovsky as the Panthers’ starting goalie.
Bobrovsky is also not the only pending UFA goalie for the Panthers this year. This is because Daniil Tarasov can also hit the market on July 1. With this, the Panthers very well could be in the market for a goalie this summer, and Markstrom now stands out as an interesting option for them to consider.

Utah Mammoth
The Mammoth would be wise to add another goaltender this off-season. Vitek Vanecek is a pending UFA heading into the summer, while Karel Vejmelka could benefit from a lower workload. Due to this, it could make a lot of sense for the Mammoth to bring in Markstrom to form a tandem with Vejmelka.
With the Mammoth a team on the rise, bringing in a goalie like Markstrom could benefit them immensely if he gets back on track.
