The second day of matches at the Japan Masters saw a horde of Indian shuttlers in action. The nation's players put on some impressive performances but were dealt a mixed bag of results.
The two highlights of the day were Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy's men's singles encounters. Sen was up against home favorite Koki Watanabe for his opening round match. While the Japanese is widely recognised for his consistent defence, Sen was able to find openings on his opponent's court with ease, clinching a decisive 21-12, 21-16 win.
Meanwhile, for HS Prannoy, this outing in Japan marks his return to the court after more than a month of injury struggles. The Indian veteran had a slow start to his match against Malaysia's Leong Jun Hao, but managed to stage a decent recovery to clinch a 16-21, 21-13, 23-21 triumph.
On the other end, Ayush Shetty, Kiran George, and Tharun Mannepalli all made first round exits at the Japan Masters. The three youngsters have put together promising performances in recent months but were unable to keep up with expectations this time around. Shetty went down against Kodai Naraoka, George fell short to a lower-ranked Kok Jing Hong, while Mannepalli faltered in his clash with Jeon Hyeok Jin.
