A 12-year-old boy from England was honored for saving his mother’s life after she suddenly lost consciousness while driving with her foot still on the gas pedal.

Zac Howells managed to take control of the car after his mother, Nicola, suffered an “extremely frightening” medical episode behind the wheel on Dec. 14, the West Mercia Police said in a statement.

The “quick-thinking” preteen attempted to wake his mother up before grabbing the steering wheel and guiding the car onto a grass verge to slow it down, cops said.

After the vehicle came to a halt, he heroically switched off the engine and called the authorities.

Neither Howells nor his mother was injured in the incident.

“Zac remained calm and gave the call handler the exact location of their car to which officers were deployed,” police wrote.

Howells was granted a Chief Constable’s Commendation on Saturday, an award for individuals who display exemplary courage and bravery, cops announced.

“For a 12-year-old to react in such a calm and mature manner is magnificent, and I would like to express my gratitude for his actions that day,” Chief Constable Richard Cooper said in a statement.

“His display of bravery certainly extinguished any danger to them both, but also that of other members of the public who were on the road that day,” Cooper wrote.
