The country singer's hit "Choosin' Texas" and its parent album, Dandelion, have ruled country and pop charts.

Fans are choosing Ella Langley over and over again. The country singer’s hit song “Choosin’ Texas” has set an illustrious record: the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a non-holiday title by a woman.
On the chart dated Aug. 15, 2026, “Choosin’ Texas,” which first topped the Hot 100 in February, added a 17th week at No. 1, one-upping Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” for the honor. Previously, Langley’s smash surpassed Carey’s “We Belong Together” and Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” (14 weeks each) for the most weeks at No. 1 among non-holiday titles by women with no male-billed acts.
For much of 2026, the Alabama native has been setting records almost every week on both the pop and country charts with either “Choosin’ Texas” or parent album Dandelion.
Langley cowrote the two-stepping, midtempo song about a heartbreak with Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor. As Langley told Billboard earlier this year, “I was on a writers retreat with Miranda, our first time writing together. At a young age, she had a pet kangaroo. She told me how she got pulled over once with the kangaroo in the passenger seat. The kangaroo got her out of a ticket and she said, ‘Of course, I had Texas plates, too.’ I went, ‘Well, she’s from Texas, I can tell …’ Forty-five minutes later, we had the song written.”

Taking on the Titans
As noted above, “Choosin’ Texas” overtook Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” for the most weeks atop the Hot 100 for a non-holiday song by a woman. Previously, it passed Carey’s “We Belong Together” and Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” for the most weeks at No. 1 among non-holiday titles by women with no male-billed acts. The overall record is 22 weeks by Carey with “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”

Double Trouble
Langley and Megan Moroney pulled off a new feat in March, when they became the first women primarily known as country artists to concurrently top the Hot 100, thanks to Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas,” and the Billboard 200, via Moroney’s Cloud 9.

“Choosin’ Texas” Lights Up Langley’s Life
When “Choosin’ Texas” notched its 11th week atop the Hot 100 at the end of June, it became the sole longest-leading country title (defined as those that have appeared on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart) by a woman, surpassing Debby Boone’s 1977 smash “You Light Up My Life.”

Swiftly Besting Taylor’s Record
Langley rewrote Taylor Swift’s record for the most weeks at No. 1 for a woman on the Country Songwriters chart when she logged her 17th week on top, a run since expanded to 23 weeks (through the Aug. 15 ranking). The only other women to top Country Songwriters are Tracy Chapman (14 weeks), Laura Veltz (five), Beyoncé (two), Gabby Barrett, Nicolle Galyon and Megan Moroney (one each). Langley has a way to go to catch up with the overall leader, Zach Bryan, who has 97 total weeks at No. 1.

Langley and Miranda Lambert are now the women country artist/songwriters with the longest-leading Hot 100 chart-topper.

Women Rule
Langley helmed a noteworthy mark on Hot Country Songs chart dated Aug. 1, where women held the entire top five for an unprecedented seventh consecutive week. Langley occupied three of the five slots: No. 1 (“Choosin’ Texas”), No. 3 (“Be Her”) and No. 5 (“I Can’t Love You Anymore,” with Morgan Wallen), while Taylor Swift ranked at No. 2 (“I Knew It, I Knew You”) and Stella Lefty at No. 4 (“Boston”).

Moving Lots and Lots of Music
Dandelion earned more than 100,000 equivalent album units in the United States, according to data tracker Luminate, in four different weeks since its debut — the first time that a country album by a woman has achieved that feat since the Billboard 200 began measuring by units in December 2014.

Producing Results
Langley also holds the record for the most weeks spent at No. 1 on the Country Producers chart among women, with 10 (through Aug. 15). The only other women to top Country Producers are Taylor Swift (four weeks), Beyoncé (two) and Miranda Lambert (one). (Overall, Joey Moi leads with a whopping 185 weeks at No. 1.)

In February, Langley became the only woman to simultaneously hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts, all thanks to “Choosin’ Texas.”

Double Dippin’

Morgan Wallen came close when he had two songs at Nos. 1 and 2, but only for one week, in May 2025.
