1 wounded, gunman killed in Michigan church shooting mid-way through morning services: police

At least one person was wounded in a shooting at a Michigan church before the gunman was shot dead by a security guard early Sunday morning, according to police and news reports.

The gunfire at Crosspointe Community Church in Wayne, Michigan, erupted shortly after 11 a.m., about a half hour into morning services, police said on Facebook.

“Upon arrival, officers determined that a security guard for the church shot and killed the suspect,” police said. “One victim was shot in the leg.”

The gunman was on his way into the church when another person tried to stop him with their truck – when the shooter opened fire at the vehicle and was shot dead by the church’s security guard, WXYZ-TV News reported, citing a law enforcement source.

Wayne police said the incident is under investigation.
